We want to give a big shout out to one of our favorite clients, Round About Cleaning Service (RAC). They are the primer cleaning company in the Washington metro area, (a.k.a. the DMV). The owner, Jackie Morgan, is the best! She is a fellow single mom, who is loved by her clients and employees equally. She is lovable and down to earth and says they "clean for a reason" which is the name of one of the many charitable organizations that her company supports. RAC is a proud partner of Cleaning for a Reason, which supports serving women with cancer. They do lots of "good work" and YGC is proud to boast about our relationship with this company.Round About Cleaning Service was awarded the Angies List Super Saver Award and the Best of Service Alley Winner for 2011. They are proud supporters of our service men and women and donate their time to Cleaning for Heroes, an organization that is dedicated to providing no-cost house cleaning services to disabled and elderly veterans and military families. Jackie has a special affinity for supporting those with HIV and heart disease. She plans to dedicate 2012 to supporting these causes. YGC was initially hired by RAC to create a logo and performed a face lift for their website. Since that first project we have assisted in RACs social media advertising campaign by creating banner profile pictures and landing pages promoting many of their give aways. They are currently giving away movie tickets to lucky followers who "Like" their Facebook page. We are also constantly working to keep their website updated, which has allowed us to have a front row seat to witness the rapid growth of this small, minority, woman owned business. If you are in the DMV area call Round About Cleaning Service for a free estimate. They even provide green cleaning products for clients with allergies or environmental sensitivities. YGC looks forward to working with RAC in 2012.
I recently saw the video above of EricJames Borges and it really hit me hard. It upset me to see this young 19 year old man, who was able to turn his life around and help other teens like himself, still decide that the world was too cruel for him. He is no longer here to help other LGBT teens like him who endure so much hate and intolerence in their short life times. I was so moved that I dediced to donate 20% of the card sales in the Yard Shop between Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday and Valentine's Day to the It Gets Better Project in rememberence of Dr. King's dream, EricJames Borges, and others like him who have also taken their own lives. TAKE THE PLEDGE: Everyone deserves to be respected for who they are. I pledge to spread this message to my friends, family and neighbors. I'll speak up against hate and intolerance whenever I see it, at school and at work. I'll provide hope for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and other bullied teens by letting them know that "It Gets Better."Send someone you love a card by REMNANTS By YardGirl Creations and send love to someone you've never met at the same time.
Happy New Year! This is the year that we start inspiring others by showing how we are inspired. Each month we will showcase a new artist. This month we are inspired by a young man by the name of Ian McDaniel. He's a hip-hop and grafitti artist in the Washington, DC area. Find out more...
About YGC About YardGirl Creations
this is me :)

YardGirl Creations (YGC) is a small, minority owned business, started by Sonya Barbee in 1995. Sonya studied graphic design and interior design at Marymount University, Corcoran School of Art, and the University of the District of Columbia. Sonya loves all forms of art and knows the value of art in everyday life."Art is Everywhere! Can't you see it?"The company's mission is to make small but significant contributions to the world. We want to do more than just make pretty things. It's important that each project sustains humanity or the environment in some way, whether it be through the use of re-claimed or recycled materials, soy based inks, or by providing opportunities to under served communities, other small businesses, or people who are often over looked or under valued in our society. Any project that does not meet the above criteria will be priced to include a 5% contribution to an organization that will support a cause related to that project. Anything produced that is not of a moral nature will also be priced to include a contribution to a socially conscious organization. In the future YGC hopes to be able to provide working opportunities for students and re-introduced citizens. We are excited about the possibility of working with other companies and organizations that understand our mission.
